Sir Lindsay Hoyle: Speaker’s furious menagerie including Boris a parrot

The new Commons Speaker shows off his furious menagerie – finish with Boris a parrot and Maggie a tortoise.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, 62, of Chorley, Lancashire showed off his 6 pets with their surprising names desirous by politicians.

His tortoise is called Maggie as “she’s got a tough bombard and isn’t for turning”, pronounced Sir Lindsay.

He also has Betty named after Baroness Boothroyd, a initial lady speaker; a cat called Dennis – desirous by Labour maestro MP Dennis Skinner; Gordon a Rottweiler – after former Labour PM Gordon Brown.

Sir Lindsay has suggested that Boris a parrot can already squawk: “Order, order”.
