TIFF honours Meryl Streep, Joaquin Phoenix

The Toronto International Film Festival is profitable reverence to Meryl Streep, Joaquin Phoenix and filmmaker Taika Waititi in a celebration Monday hold amid a festival’s unspooling premieres.

Also premiering Monday is Phoenix’s Joker, uninformed off a Golden Lion win Saturday during a Venice Film Festival.

Waititi is receiving a festival’s Ebert Director Award, named after a late film censor Roger Ebert. Cinematographer Roger Deakins will also be given an award, as will Atlantics executive Mati Diop. The French filmmaker will accept a Mary Pickford Award for an emerging, groundbreaking womanlike talent.
